Fear not though! I am injecting sunshine, and joy, and drama into my life manually via The OC.  Although it is quite scary that when the show first aired I was the same age as the main characters and now I’m like a grown up or whatever.

Oh, well, at least that means I get to drink vodka tonics (legally) while I marathon the entirety of season one this gloriously grey bank holiday weekend.

Me: My arms are all tingly so I should probably get out of the sun. But I don’t wanna!
Dad: Just put on a jumper.
Me: Can’t. I’m sitting on it. You know how I feel about grass. There are bugs in it.
Dad: And dog pee…
Me: …

Thanks, Dad. Now I have to wash that cardigan in bleach.

My laptop is perfectly fine, only cost £400, and is obviously portable. It’s not great for carrying around though. It’s actually pretty heavy. The widescreen makes it a little less portable. And, because of an old neck injury I’m not supposed to haul around too many things (tell that to my handbag).

So, a tablet would be handy. Especially because I like to write outside of my own house where there are less distractions. (Hello, wireless keyboard!) Another reason why the laptop is a bad idea. It makes it too easy to just watch some TV or just check my email again. Or just do that thing that… what was I saying?

You get my point.

But I don’t want any tablet. I want an iPad. Just the same way that I wanted an iPod and no other MP3 player would really sate that thirst. Maybe, despite my job which means I should know better, I’m every marketing person’s dream. People always make apps for Apple before Android. The iPad cases are prettier. The machine itself looks sleeker and shiny.

Sadly, I don’t have a spare £400 lying around so I guess this isn’t really an issue. But still, iPad, I pine for you. Get into my life, please.

I love teen drama. I have always loved teen drama. I suspect I always will love teen drama.

There’s always a love story and a push against authority. Someone will have to “find” themselves. Maybe there will be a melodramatic encounter with alcohol or other drugs. Nobody ever has to pay Council Tax or think about the water bill. Who wouldn’t rather worry about vampires and cute boys than those things? NOBODY. That’s who.

Feel free to judge my reading habits (I like other things too – Fitzgerald and Salinger and Waugh and Kerouac, pour example) but I have a Kindle now and I will abuse the fact that 99% of the general public will never know what I’m reading. Bliss.

Willow and Walter. These are some of my favourite creatures on the entire planet. Usually not seen in the same place at the same time long enough for photo ops.

I bring them presents whenever I visit. My parents’ place is starting to look like a toddler lives there with all the toys lying on the floor. I cannot wait for in person snuggles with W&W when I’m there next week. An added bonus to spontaneous trips home for drunken reunions with my buddies.

Scotland is ridiculously pretty, even when it’s dark and drizzly. I miss the horizon being hills and mountains when I’m in London; all you ever see here are buildings and more buildings.

I understand that some peeps are too busy being hippies or hipsters who hate on corporate everything to enjoy Starbucks. I even understand coffee snobs who claim there’s not enough coffee in their coffee. But I freakin’ love Starbucks. You know why? I can buy a cup of coffee and then sit in relative peace for as long as I like while drinking it.

Nobody will kick me out. Nobody will glare at me from the coffee maker for taking my time. Nobody will bat an eyelid if I pull out my laptop or a notebook and hog a table for two hours. I can’t remember ever having a rude Barista… even in the Heathrow airside store at 5am.

I tell ‘em to add an extra shot or two of espresso to my drink and because I have a Starbucks card (which was totally free for me to procure) I get those extra shots free. So no complaints about the weak coffee, either.

In my Uni days, before I was gobbled up by corporate everything, people often asked why I didn’t get a job at Starbucks for the discount. Let’s forget for a minute that I loved and adored the job I had. I could never have worked in Starbucks for the simple reason that it’s my happy place. On almost any street in London (or any other big city) I can find a little refuge from the rain, or tourists, or tired feet. That peace of mind is pretty priceless.

Starbucks, I love you. Even if you are a corporate whore.

Then I realised that life as a grown-up is pretty boring. I also realised that a lot of people write books. Some of those people aren’t even any good at writing books but they’re still being paid to do it.

So, I’m writing a book. I’ve even started. As of today I have a 40,000 word manuscript which is not too shabby for a month’s work. Look forward to hearing about all the joy I experience while writing the next 60,000 words. Oh god, I’m scared, someone please hold me now?

I figured I might as well chronicle things as I go along. You never know, I might actually write in this blog for more than a month. Stranger things have come to be.
